Thanks to everyone who battled the hideous traffic to get to the first ever Digital Hampshire event last night. We made lots of new friends and caught up with others from Hampshire’s digital scene. Our talk for the evening, from Kelvin Newman – Marketing Director at SiteVisibility and founder of BrightonSEO – was a fascinating insight into complex and chaotic systems. With the use of three real-world examples, Kelvin talked us through evolutionary technology (machine learning) with examples of situations when algorithmic processes have had completely unpredictable and unintentional results; for example the flash crash of 2010, when automated trading caused a massive crash on the Dow Jones Index. To this day experts cannot explain why.

We got some great feedback about the event and more importantly, some great suggestions and ideas as to how we can make the next one even better! If you didn’t get a chance to come this time, we will be holding the next towards the end of July in Winchester. Pop over to www.digitalhampshire.com and register for the email list to make sure you’re in the loop.
